God loves us so very much that he sent His Son, Jesus, to save us from our sin. But he didn’t stop there! He then called us together as family so that we may grow in relationship with Him and be mended from our brokenness. He appoints leaders to equip us to fulfill our destiny and then sends us back into our world to impact others with His love and power.
As followers of Christ Jesus, we are commissioned to continue His work on earth. For us, then, “church” involves Loving, Mending, Equipping & Sending.
Loving
The bottom line for Cornerstone Worship Center (CWC) is not the size of the crowd or the offerings. Neither is it the impressiveness of our facilities or the quality of our public meetings. Our bottom line is the love that we show for God and for people.
The first and greatest commandment is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.” That is why freely expressed praise and heartfelt worship are so important to us.
The second great commandment is to “love your neighbor as yourselves.” One of our goals, therefore, is to develop a network of small, Home Churches that focus on sharing the love of God in a growing community of faith.
Mending
We live as imperfect people in a corrupted world where we experience opposition from the evil one. Everyone has suffered some level of loss, hurt, bondage and brokenness. We seek to cooperate with the Holy Spirit as He helps people move into the abundant life God desires for them.
The possibility of abundant life begins when we are born again through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior.
Then, in an atmosphere of love, acceptance and forgiveness the Word and the Spirit regularly impact our lives. When that happens, we can confidently expect to change and grow.
In our Home Churches we develop redemptive relationships which encourage us to be continually “on the mend.”
We have also learned that there is no substitute for a personal, healing touch from Jesus! That is why we provide time to “soak” in God’s river of refreshing and renewal as it flows during worship and prayer ministry.
Equipping
Every believer is called to serve as a fully authorized agent of God’s kingdom. The work of the ministry is the assignment of the average Christian, not the exceptional ones. We are called to be disciples who bear fruit, not spectators who fill chairs.
Our goal is to help disciples to quickly develop the maturity, worldview, values and motivation necessary to serve as leaders.
Relatively few will hold official leadership positions at Cornerstone. But if they are equipped for leadership, they will be better prepared for whatever the Lord calls them to do at work, at home or in the community.
Sending
The church is a tool to accomplish God’s work in the world. Our assignment is to make disciples – obedient, Spirit-filled followers of Christ – who will then go into their assigned spheres of influence to love, mend, equip and send others.
Our mandate from the Lord Jesus is to “make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them . . . [and] teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.”
In a very real sense, we believe that “you are the program.” As His disciple, the Lord has a purpose for you! Jesus said, “As the Father sent me, so I send you.” You are commissioned to take the love and the power of God into your world so that others may share the joy and the freedom that is yours.
What a privilege to affirm and support one other as we go in Jesus’ name!
